As a big fan of the Star Ocean games and series composer Motoi Sakuraba, I wanted to do an orchestral cover of one of Star Ocean 2′s most prominent themes, “Rena’s Theme.”

Release Date: August 11, 2002
Original Name: “Arlia Village, Theme of Rena ”
Game: Star Ocean 2, PlayStation, 1999
Composer: Motoi Sakuraba

Equipment Used: Cakewalk
: I blended the Arlia and Rena songs together, as they’re so similar. I ended up stacking orchestral layers gradually until I got a full sound. Everything was played freely and not really sequenced. It just sort of came together.

Hi Dale,

My names Will Owens, im a drummer by trade but ive recently got into production as i have a real passion for making music. I was wondering if you could tell me what VST plug ins you used for Rena Lanford? Im in love with your take on it, its actually my most played song in iTunes (4869!!!). Any tips or advice would be much appreciated.

Many Thanks

Mr. North, I so wish I could meet you in person. You are a talent, this arrangement was simply beautiful, it captured the emotion of the original and added this extra depth of feeling, especially with the string arrangements. Simply amazing how you pulled it off even back then. I truly hope you continue with this, as you have a knack for arrangements.
